The story behind the space
A space where believers can come (but not exclusively believers) to align and re-align their compasses true north to Christ (Isaiah 58), communing with a community of believers who desire to serve and have Christ at the centre of their hearts (Philippians 2:1-11), to then wash out and establish the Kingdom of God.
Mizpah is a space where you will encounter the presence of God.
Mizpah is not a church, but it is a place for The Church to gather in unity,
regardless of denomination, with one thing in common... the pursuit of Jesus.
Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
As one, we look to the only One deserving of all our affection
From the heart.
Kajen, Founder
Mizpah; why? Well, it was certainly not an easy decision for me to make. Kicking and screaming, God brought me to a place where obedience to Him was more important than my ideas of how life should look.
He had placed in my heart — many years ago — a desire to see people flourish in Him. To see young and old place Jesus at the centre of their hearts. To see generations learning from each other, to understand the cultural and historical context of the Bible better in order to have greater clarity of our Father. To see the picture Paul paints of the Body of Christ working together, serving each other to further establish the Kingdom of God.
All having their place and playing their part, all relying on Christ doing nothing out of selfish ambition, but instead motivated by a desire to see God glorified because of who He is, and also through the amazing stories of His goodness through peoples’ lives.
So, we see Mizpah as a space where the above can happen… Because it’s God’s desire that we sit with Him, that we hear His voice, and that we obey.
Janelle,
Years ago, I came across the song ‘No Longer Slaves'.
This song of freedom profoundly resonated with my heart, and struck a deep chord within me.
As I sat at my desk that day, I believe now Holy Spirit had directed me to that song which provided an answer to a question that I didn't even realise I was asking...it was welling up inside me.
Why do I struggle so much to take risks for you Jesus?
Actually, why do I struggle to step out into new things with confidence?
It was as if in that moment, I had found release from the fear which had enslaved me for my entire life.
Tears spilled down my face as I listened, amazed, at the lyrics which told my story. From within my cage of fear I felt the door was flung open wide... as I belted out the tune right there at my computer..."I'm no longer a slave to fear! I am a child of God' 'You split the seas so I could walk right through, my fear is drowned in perfect love!'
I cried. Thank you Jesus for unlocking the revelation of your gift of freedom!
Unshackling of fear.
I had begun upon a journey to greater freedom, although I did not expect what that encounter would lead to!
I loved the sound of freedom I heard within that song of worship so much so that I had to find out more about who wrote and composed it, but I found so much more...The Cageless Birds, a ministry founded by Jonathan and Melissa Helser in North Carolina that hosts discipleship programs focused on spiritual formation where they host summer camps for teenagers, schools for adults in their formative years, and retreats for men and women who desire to deepen their walk with the Lord. They also lead worship in their schools and around the world, writes songs and create resources to build up the body of Christ such as .videos, devotional books, podcasts, music, e-courses, and handcrafted artisan goods.
I was so inspired by the work of this ministry that I began to dream into what Australia could offer in a similar space. I felt passion rise. I felt the need to make space for Jesus to capture the heart of creatives, and reveal the unique God given gifts they are blessed with, are not simply for their pleasure alone...
A call to re-align, a call to use what's in our hand to serve the Lord and bless.
Why not be creative for creativity's sake? Scripture is pretty clear that anything that is elevated to a position above God is not acceptable
A gift is to be celebrated but not worshiped (I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Isaiah 42:8)
A gift is given to enjoy but when it is shared - this is where the true blessing comes. It is better to give than receive. (Acts 20:35) and the gift of creativity should be used to point to Christ.
I began to dream about what was seeding in my heart...
Imagine a place where God is reflected in those that reflect the ultimate creator.
Imagine if we could provide a space where a community of people come along side one another, creativity is enjoyed, conversations and relationship are built and discipleship is naturally interweaved.
A place where creative skills can be honed, but the gift is not the central purpose.
A place to share skills with others, to educate, to build relationships and a place that fosters a community eager to learn and grow both in faith and skill...
A space where discipleship would be provided to these reflectors of 'God the Creator', and help them to place God first — that He would be the focus and the rest would be an overflow… A space where creative people understand that they belong, and that there is a place for who they are in the Kingdom of God…
Mizpah exists to help people understand that their creativity reflects the Creator, and using their gift is an act of worship.
